In the area around Nymindegab Kro you can see the Danish dune heath.
There are many dune heath areas along the North and West European coasts, but only few are still in their original state. The dune heath areas in West Jutland are the best preserved of them all and therefore a type of nature of international importance, which we in Denmark have an obligation to preserve. The dune heath areas lay behind the first white dunes and several of them lay in or around Nymindegab.
From a distance, the dune heath areas don’t look very varied, but up close you can clearly see a big difference in soil and terrain and every area has its own characteristic plants.
The natural vegetation of the dune heath depends on cutting, grazing, burning etc. so it is not outcompeted by grasses and trees.
Dune lakes are part of the areas – low on sustenance with very little flora and home of the rare beach toad, breeding in low lakes.
